CATAHOULA, LA • MARCH 25-26, 2017
March 25th started off the 2017 race season in Catahoula, La. Lots of extremely close racing with 57 entries. Thankfully the weather held out with minimum delays at the 7th annual Bayou Southern Nationals.
Lake Racer got us started with returning Hi-Points Runner-Up Kaleb Bourgeois up against newcomer Justin Brooks. This was a very tight race both days with Justin sneaking out in front on day 2. But seasoned racer Josh Broussard tops them both driving Scott Alleman’s XB2002.
Prostock had some newcomers this year. Seth Morace and Hunter Salter came out to take on veterans Trent Melancon, Randy Wheat and the winner Joe Davis.
Rodney King and Justin Brooks battled it out in River Racer but, as many times before Kody Fisette pulled off the win.
Then Kody Fisette made a couple changes and jumped into 1400 Modified this year for the first time. He had the privilege to run against the veteran racer Darren Baxter who was set to retire after this race event. However, the final race on both days was between Todd Catrett and Catahoula native Shawn Jetton. Todd Catrett came out on top by mere inches.
4 boats made up our ProDrag class. They flew by with speeds exceeding 115mph in 1/8 mile. Erik Kiser took the win on Sunday over David Pou and Randy Harrell. Tyler Whitehead gave us a little heart stopping moment but we’re glad he has joined this class this year with a big OMC. These guys put on a quick show for the crowd.
We are very happy that DSRA President Jed Angelle is back and kicking butt in SuperComp. Taylor Crabtree took the win piloting Jamie Jordan’s XR2001.
There were a record 12 boats in the ProMod class (formerly ProGas). It was an exhilarating race with Brett Hamilton, Rodney King and “Laser” Ed Trobridge who hails all the way from Key West Florida. These guys were not giving each other an inch on the start. Every little bit counts when the best of the best are running for the big win.
Thanks to all of our sponsors, spectators and race family for a thrilling start to 2017 DSRA Season.
We hope to see everyone in Orange Texas on the weekend of May 20th & 21st where we will have a live band “Jaimie Bergeron and The Kickin Cajuns” provided to us by the Awesome City of Orange!!!
